I love an artwork that incorporates the frame into the art. One, because I think it looks cool, but mainly because it means that the art will come already framed and I won’t have to buy a frame separately. The hidden cost of framing is not talked about enough in the art community.
There is a lot to take in when viewing this work. There is the perfect sky blue color that encompasses the background and extends onto sections of the frame, the incredibly intricate and realistic stem of flowers in the center, and the child-like doodles amongst the flowers and to the side. It looks as if the artist completed this beautiful study on flowers, and then his 5 year old child came in and added their own touches with a box of crayons. A simple drawing of a purple chameleon can be found resting on a stem and perfectly filling in an empty space amongst the cluster of flowers. To the side is a classic child’s drawing of a square house with a triangle roof complete with flowers growing in straight lines around a picket fence and a butterfly flying towards a timeless sun drawn in what would be the corner of the page. The corner sun cannot be escape even when there are no corners in site.
This is such a beautiful piece of art mixing great artistic talent and the beauty of a child’s imagination.
