Le Cirque | Raoul Dufy, 1935
Le Cirque | Raoul Dufy, 1935

I love the orange and pink color scheme of the arena. They are both bold colors, but the colors are not overwhelming and feel very natural in the piece. There is a lot of color throughout the painting, but somehow they all feel cohesive.

I appreciate how all of Dufy's works have an element of being unfinished. He often has parts of the canvas peaking through, will use watered down, slightly shear paint, and subjectively omit details. In this painting, I noticed he left several of the spectators in the stands as just outlines.

A beautiful equestrian scene. Well done.
