Venice | Wolf Kahn, 1957
Venice | Wolf Kahn, 1957

This has an essence of pointillism to it that is really walking the line for me. If you know me, you might know that pointillism is my least favorite artistic style, but this is okay, and in fact, I quite like this piece of art. Sallie approved. And thank goodness for that because I know Wolf Kahn's entire career has been awaiting my approval.

I love getting to see artists' works in progress and getting a window into the artistic process. The unfinished nature of the edges of the scene give insight to the initial layering applied when working with pastels that eventually get covered by countless more layers of work, but serve a crucial purpose in adding depth to the piece. The layering comes together to form a beautiful waterscape scene complete with pockets of light peaking through buildings in the background and a glowing boat carefully gliding into the scene. A wonderful work of art that barely misses pointillism to the point of no return.
