Our first 2025 artwork! Finding more active artists has been my favorite part of this art discovery phase I am in right now. I obviously love old art, and the work of the master's are labeled that way for a reason, but getting to join in on an artist's journey as they are still creating and evolving is so exciting. Modern art can get a bad reputation, but some of these pieces will be used to define this period of humanity to future generations. And the crazy thing is.. we probably won't be the ones choosing the art that defines the now.. the generations that immediately follow will be left to determine the art that matters.
I love how cohesive this series of works by Gilliams is. The works are so eclectic, but are all solidly tied together through the red, white, and blue color scheme, rough layering, and stitch-work throughout. The sailboats provide the perfect amount of detail and clear intention that allow this work to go beyond looking like a hodge podge of fabric and paint. The sailboats sit along a horizon of sewing stitches and help bring the painting down to earth. I would love to see the texture on this piece in person.
