Soft Peaks | Clare Woods, 2023

It's amazing how there is art everywhere and ever-changing. A subject is on thing one second, and can be perceived as something completely different with one step forward. A slice of dessert is beautiful, but so is the layers and details that create it.

This close up yet loose depiction of a fruity dessert covered in whipped cream makes you feel like you are right next to the piece. Maybe you are getting close about to take your first bite, maybe you are another slice yourself. I also appreciate the contrast in the precise peaks of the whipped cream on top and the messy mix of ingredients on the inside. Maybe a metaphor of everything is not as it seems, but it is equally possible that this is just a painting of a piece of dessert.
