Cubic’s Perspective | Mads Christensen, 2024
Cubic’s Perspective | Mads Christensen, 2024

The materials of this piece are acrylic, LEDs, and custom software. I am struggling to determine how those materials are coming together to form this artwork. When I first saw LEDs and custom software were involved, I assumed that the LEDs were colored lights and the software was creating the specific design. With the mention of acrylic, I am now wondering if the acrylic is what is colored—or both colored acrylic and colored LEDs. Looking at it is not curing my confusion in the slightest especially since I think it looks like a painting.

Anyway, confused or not, I am loving this piece. If the LEDs are LEDing like I think they could be LEDing, I feel like this could give a similar vibe to a James Turrell sculpture. I love when art adds light and brightness to a space. Many paintings naturally add levity and light to the room by using colors, perspectives, and stylistic effects that give the impression of a presence of light in the art. Light can be added into art via a viewing light built into the frame. Or you can go a step farther and a step more literal, and hang a piece of art that is made of lights. All valid ways to add light to a space through the means of art.
